Outbound screening calls that end with an interview booked

The qualification call is the one recruiters never get through. An agent works the list, asks the same five things, and books the ones who qualify.

The AI calling agent dials candidates on a requisition and runs a structured phone screen covering availability, notice period, location, salary or rate expectation and right to work. Qualifying candidates are offered interview slots and booked on the call, and the transcript, summary and stage change are written back to the record.

The call has a job, and it is qualification

This is not a conversation about the role and it is not a competency interview. It is the five-minute call that establishes whether it is worth anybody's time going further: are you actually looking, when could you start, what notice do you owe, where can you work from, what are you expecting to be paid, and are you eligible to work in this market.

Those five or six answers decide most of what happens next, and they are the answers recruiters most often do not have when they submit. An agency desk with sixty applicants and two consultants does not make sixty qualification calls; it makes eleven, guesses at the rest, and finds out at the offer stage that the notice period was three months.

  • Availability and whether the candidate is actively looking
  • Notice period and earliest realistic start date
  • Location, commute tolerance and remote or on-site expectation
  • Salary or day rate expectation, captured with its currency
  • Right to work status in the market the requisition sits in
  • Any hard requirement from the brief that can be answered in a sentence

The agent says what it is before it says anything else

Every call opens by identifying the voice as artificial and naming the company on whose behalf it is calling. That happens first, before any question, and it is not configurable down to nothing. A recruitment call from a machine that pretends to be a person is a bad practice regardless of what the local rule says, and it destroys the trust the desk depends on.

Opting out is honoured within seconds and by either route. A candidate can say stop, not interested or take me off your list, or key the digit the agent offers, and the call ends immediately with the suppression written to the record. Suppression is at the candidate level, not the campaign level, so it holds across every requisition and every recruiter in the account.

Outbound automated calling to a mobile number requires prior express consent from the person you are calling, and that consent has to exist on the record before the agent will dial. The product enforces this as a gate rather than a warning: a candidate record without a captured consent basis for automated contact is skipped, and the run report says why.

Consent capture records what the candidate agreed to, when, and through which channel, whether that was an application form, a portal confirmation, a reply to a message or an earlier conversation logged by a recruiter. The suppression list, the consent record and the call log all sit on the same candidate record, so the question of whether you were entitled to make a particular call is answerable from one screen. The registrations the carriers require for your sending brand remain yours to obtain; we provide the fields and the integration.

Booking happens on the call, not in a follow-up email

The reason qualification calls decay is the handoff. The candidate qualifies, the recruiter says someone will be in touch about times, and four days of email tag begins while the candidate takes another role.

When a candidate qualifies against the criteria on the requisition, the agent reads real availability from the panel's calendars, offers slots, and holds the one the candidate picks. The confirmation goes out on the channel the candidate agreed to, with the reschedule link in it. If nothing suits, the agent captures the windows that do work and raises a task for the recruiter rather than leaving the thread open.

Everything comes back to the record

A completed call writes four things: the transcript, a summary of what was said, the structured answers in their proper fields, and the stage change with the booking attached. All four land on the candidate record and on the requisition, in the same activity stream as every email, message and note.

The structured answers are the part that compounds. A notice period captured by a call is the same field a search facet reads, so next month you can find every candidate on a four-week notice without opening a transcript. A recruiter reviews the call before the qualification is treated as settled, and their review is recorded alongside it.

Same beta posture as the rest of the voice stack

The calling agent shares the release posture of AI interview calls, and it is worth restating rather than cross-referencing. It is a controlled beta at Wave 1, available on the Professional tier, behind a feature flag rather than switched on by default, and enabled only in one-party-consent jurisdictions. A spoken recording disclosure is played before recording begins, retention is configurable per tenant, every transcript is reviewed by a person, and an administrator can disable the whole capability with one switch.

As with the interview calls, none of this is an assertion that your use of it complies with any particular statute. It describes controls the product gives you. What is lawful depends on your jurisdiction, the consent you hold and how you configure the run.

What the agent will not attempt

It does not negotiate, it does not make or discuss an offer, and it does not answer detailed questions about the client, the team or the contract. When a candidate asks something outside the script, the agent says it does not know and offers to have a recruiter call, and the task lands on the desk with the question attached.

It also does not reject anyone. A candidate who does not meet the criteria is not booked and is not disqualified either; the record shows what they answered and the recruiter decides. Given the price of a false negative on a qualification call, having a person look at the near misses is not a courtesy, it is where the placements come from.

What you get

Knowledge Base prerequisite

Calls are skipped until the company summary, value proposition and a product are set up.

Blacklist respected

A blacklisted candidate is never dialled, whatever their score.

Structured qualification

Availability, notice, location, pay expectation and right to work asked identically every call.

Artificial-voice disclosure

The agent identifies itself as artificial and names the company before any question.

Immediate opt-out

Spoken or keyed opt-out honoured within seconds, with suppression written to the record.

Account-wide suppression

An opt-out holds across every requisition and every recruiter, not just the current run.

Consent gate

Records without a captured consent basis for automated contact are skipped, with the reason logged.

Live calendar booking

Real panel availability offered on the call, with the chosen slot held immediately.

Fallback windows

If no slot suits, the agent captures workable windows and raises a recruiter task.

Four-part write-back

Transcript, summary, structured answers and stage change all land on the record.

Field-level capture

Notice period and rate populate the searchable fields, not just the transcript body.

Recruiter review

A person confirms the qualification before it is treated as settled, and the review is logged.

Escalation on unknowns

Off-script questions are declined honestly and passed to a human with the question attached.

No rejection

Candidates who do not qualify are not disqualified; the recruiter reads and decides.

Tenant kill switch

One administrator switch stops all outbound agent calling across the account.

Questions recruiters ask

What has to be in place before the agent can call anyone?

The account's AI Knowledge Base: a company summary, a value proposition and at least one product or service, so the agent can say who it is calling for. Until that is set up, calls are skipped rather than placed. Candidates on the blacklist are always skipped too, whatever their score.

Do we need consent before the agent calls a mobile number?

Yes. Outbound automated calling to a mobile requires prior express consent from the person you are calling, and the product will not dial a record that has no captured consent basis for automated contact. The run report lists skipped records and the reason. Obtaining that consent is your responsibility; capturing and enforcing it is ours.

How does a candidate stop the calls?

By saying so or by keying the digit the agent offers at the start. The opt-out is honoured within seconds, the call ends, and suppression is written to the candidate record at account level, so it holds across every requisition and every recruiter rather than only the campaign that triggered it.

How is this different from AI interview calls?

The calling agent is outbound and transactional: it dials, qualifies on a fixed set of criteria and books an interview. AI interview calls run your authored interview question set as a screening stage. Same voice infrastructure, same beta posture, different job. Most desks would use the calling agent first and the interview screen after.

Can it call a list of five hundred candidates overnight?

It can work a queue, but pacing is deliberately conservative and calling windows are restricted to reasonable local hours for the candidate's location. Volume is also limited during the beta because we would rather find the failure modes on hundreds of calls than on tens of thousands.

What happens when the candidate asks a question it cannot answer?

It says it does not know, offers to have a recruiter call back, and files the question as a task on the record. It does not improvise an answer about the client, the rate, the team or the contract, because a confident wrong answer on a screening call is more expensive than an honest handoff.

Is the call recorded, and who can hear it?

Recording happens only where the tenant is enabled in a one-party-consent jurisdiction, and a spoken disclosure is played first. Recordings sit on the candidate record inside your tenant, visible to the roles you permit, kept for the retention period you configure, and removed in full by the erasure workflow.
